Saturday, September 20 Arrival of the breweries and festival hosts and tapping of the kegs

To herald the start of Oktoberfest, the breweries and festival hosts symbolically bring the beer to the Wiesn. This takes place in decorated carriages, with the procession starting at 10:35 a.m. on Josephspitalstraße. Afterwards, at 12:00 noon, the traditional tapping of the keg takes place in the Schottenhamel Festhalle. There, the mayor of Munich will attempt to tap the keg with as few strokes as possible.

Sunday, September 21 Traditional costume and riflemen’s parade

Numerous participants parade through the city center in traditional costumes to the Theresienwiese. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m. on Maximilianstraße. Horsemen, festive carriages, and many walking groups are expected to take part.

Thursday, September 25 Ecumenical Mass

The showman families and market traders can attend the church service in the Marstall marquee from 9:30 a.m. Festival guests are also welcome to attend the service.

Friday, September 26 Wreath laying ceremony

Flower wreaths are laid to commemorate the right-wing extremist bomb attack in 1980. For the first time, relatives of survivors will also address to the participants.

Sunday, September 28 Open-air concert

The Wiesnwirte are hosting their annual traditional concert at Oktoberfest. The bands will be playing traditional Bavarian music starting at 11:00 a.m.

Sunday, October 5th Gun Salute

The Oktoberfest traditionally ends with a gun salute. This takes place on the steps of the Bavaria statue at 12:00 noon and is accompanied by traditional music.

Directions & Parking

Arrival by Bus and Train

Traveling by public transportation is recommended, as Theresienwiese is very well connected and buses and trains run more frequently than usual. Detailed information on travel times and routes is available at: https://www.oktoberfest.de/informationen/service-fuer-besucher/anreise/oeffentliche-verkehrsmittel-anreise-mit-bahn-bus-tram

Arrival by Car

It is recommended to park your car outside at a P+R parking lot and then continue by bus or train, as the parking lots around the Wiesn are very crowded and also very expensive.
