The topic of environmental protection is becoming increasingly important these days. Disneyland Paris contributes a lot to environmental protection and sustainability. In this article, you can find out how the park implements these measures.

Water Management

In order to supply the two Disney Parks with water for maintenance and plants, Disneyland has been using its own wastewater treatment plant since 2013. The clarified reserves are used in particular to clean the roads, irrigate the flowerbeds and the golf course and for the ponds. For this purpose, up to 3.500 cubic meters are purified every day. It is obtained from the waste water from the two parks in Paris. This has saved more than 4 million cubic meters of water since 2013.

Waste Management

Recycling plays a major role in avoiding excessive waste production. It reduces air pollution and greenhouse gases and promotes a sustainable circular economy. For example, old Disney costumes are collected from employees and processed into insulating felt. In the years 2022 to 2023, 15 tons of costumes were recycled. In future, care will also be taken to ensure that less food is wasted.

Emissions

Renewable energy sources are being used to reduce emissions. The parking lots of the parks are equipped with a solar roofing system. The plant generates around 36 gigawatt hours of electricity per year. Also, energy-intensive lighting is being replaced with LEDs. For example, pool temperatures are lowered, heaters are adjusted and park lighting is switched off overnight.

Biodiversity

In order to preserve natural habitats, nature and animals are a top priority. Various foods are grown in a garden next to the Disney Hotel Chayenne and then used in the hotel’s restaurant. Two of the hotels offer a nature trail to teach everything about gardens, flowers and bees. There are also meadows and wastelands around the parks where French sheep graze.

Campaigns, workshops, conferences and certain training sessions for Cast Members and visitors to the parks are held to raise awareness of the environment and spread knowledge about nature conservation. These approaches are intended to ensure environmental protection at Disneyland.
