The roller coaster Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close in August 2025 and be demolished to make room for a new attraction at Universal Studios Florida.
The Roller Coaster
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is a steel roller coaster of the X-Car Music model, manufactured by German coaster company Maurer Rides. It opened in August 2009 at Universal Studios Florida, part of the Universal Orlando Resort. While the coaster is popular with some guests, it has also faced significant criticism — especially for its rough ride experience.
Closure & Demolition
Universal announced the permanent closure of the iconic roller coaster at the end of last year. Shortly afterward, a demolition permit was filed. Originally, the closure was expected to happen in September 2025.
The date has now been confirmed and moved up: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will close on August 18, 2025. On its website, Universal writes: “Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close on August 18, 2025 to make way for a new experience. More details will be available at a later date.“
This leaves fans and first-time visitors just over two months to get in a final ride before the coaster disappears for good.
To mark the upcoming closure after more than 15 years of operation, Universal has released a dedicated merchandise collection titled “Farewell Tour 2025”.
It includes a T-shirt and magnet, available both in the park and online.
What’s Next for the Location?
What exactly will be built on the former site of Rip Ride Rockit remains unclear for now.
Fan forums are buzzing with rumors of a potential new Fast & Furious attraction, but no official details have been announced yet.
Just a few weeks ago, Epic Universe — a massive new theme park with spectacular rides and immersive themed areas — officially opened at the Universal Orlando Resort.
