Minecraft World: First Roller Coaster and Themed Land Based on the Gaming Hit to Open in the UK

Theme park operator Merlin Entertainments has announced a spectacular new project in collaboration with Mojang Studios: “Minecraft World”, the first fully immersive themed land based on the world’s best-selling video game Minecraft.

The new land is set to open in 2027 at the British theme park Chessington World of Adventures and is considered one of the operator’s most ambitious developments in recent years. Merlin is investing around £50 million into the project.

First Details: Roller Coaster, Interactivity and Iconic Minecraft Worlds

“Minecraft World” will bring the virtual block-based universe into a real-world theme park environment for the first time. Guests will be able to experience familiar biomes, creatures and elements from the game up close.

Planned features include:

A world-first Minecraft roller coaster
Interactive adventure experiences
Themed play areas inspired by the blocky game design
Retail and dining locations in Minecraft style

According to the developers, a strong focus is placed on creating an authentic recreation of the Minecraft universe. To achieve this, Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios are working closely together and collaborating with well-known creators from the Minecraft community.

Angela Jobson of Merlin emphasized that the new themed land is designed to highlight creativity, exploration and shared experiences. Mojang also describes the project as an important milestone in expanding the Minecraft brand.

A Major Project with International Appeal

With “Minecraft World”, Merlin Entertainments is taking the next step in integrating major entertainment brands into its parks. The combination of a globally recognized gaming IP and an immersive themed environment could attract new audiences and further strengthen the park’s international profile.

The location of Chessington World of Adventures, just around 35 minutes by direct train from London Waterloo, also makes the resort especially appealing for tourists.
