The Gallimarkt in Leer is East Frisia’s largest folk festival and takes place from October 8 to October 12. In addition to a large selection of fairground attractions, there are other offerings such as festival tents with live music, fireworks, and much more. Thursday: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Friday: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Saturday: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Sunday: 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
Tuesday, October 7 Cattle drive
The public cattle drive begins at 3:00 p.m. at the cattle sheds on the Nesse. However, the funfair, including rides and stalls, does not begin until Wednesday.
Wednesday, October 8 Opening of the Gallimarkt and cattle market
The traditional cattle market begins at 6:00 a.m. at the cattle halls. At 11:30 a.m., the Gallimarkt is officially opened in front of the town hall, and heralds parade through the town all day long to announce this.
Thursday, October 9: Companies and Heroes Day
Companies Day will take place, and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., you can meet very special heroes such as the Transformers, Anna and Elsa, and Captain America.
Friday, October 10 Fireworks
At 10:00 p.m., there will be a large fireworks display over the port of Leer.
Saturday, October 11 Lantern ride
Lantern rides will take place at the commercial port starting at 6:45 p.m.
Sunday, October 12 Showmen’s service and Sunday shopping
The showmen’s service takes place at 10:00 a.m. in the festival tent. From 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., you can stroll through the shops during Sunday shopping, and happy hour starts at 6:00 p.m.
Directions & Parking
Arriving by public transport
From the train station, walk past the post office to Mühlenplatz, through the pedestrian zone (approx. 2 km) to Brunnenstraße. Turn left there and walk to Rathausstraße, where the market begins right next to the town hall. All information about the special buses that will take you to the Gallimarkt and back for €7 can be found on the Leer city website. Arriving by car
Take the Leer West (Emstunnel) motorway exit towards Leer. Turn right at the first traffic lights. The street “Blinke” leads directly to the market grounds. However, there are only a few parking spaces in this area, so it is advisable to start looking for a parking space in advance.

– Ostersteg in parking lot 4 and parking lot 5
– Georgstraße behind the police station

Disabled parking spaces are available in the Waage parking lot area and at BBS 2.
Arriving by bicycle
Bicycles can be parked at the Dr.-v. Bruch Bridge, the town hall courtyard, and in the bicycle racks at the BBS.
