The French theme park Parc Astérix has announced extensive investment plans for the coming years, including several new attractions such as an indoor roller coaster and an interactive dark ride. Here’s everything you need to know about the park’s ambitious expansion.

With an investment volume of €250 million, the park north of Paris is entering the largest expansion phase in its history. By 2030, Parc Astérix aims to increase its capacity by 20 percent, create 900 new jobs, and secure its place among Europe’s top five theme parks.

In 2025 alone, the park welcomed 2.9 million visitors, setting a new record and solidifying its position as France’s second most visited theme park. Building on this success, the park has unveiled a series of ambitious projects that will significantly transform Parc Astérix over the next few years.

2026: Expansion of the “Egypt” themed area

The transformation begins in 2026 with a complete redesign of the Egyptian themed area. Several existing rides will be rethemed: the water ride Oxygénarium will become “The Descent of the Nile”, while the wave swinger will be transformed into “The Flight of Ibis.” The buffet restaurant Le Cirque will also receive a makeover and reopen as “Le Comptoir d’Epidemaïs.”

At the same time, the park will modernize its main parking area, which will soon feature solar panel canopies for greater sustainability.

2027: The “Greece” area grows — and a new hotel opens

The following year, the Greek themed area will be expanded. Two new family attractions – including a “Coco Dance” carousel by Zamperla and two family free-fall towers by Zierer – as well as a new playground will broaden the family offering.

On the culinary side, guests can look forward to the new restaurant “La Table de Dyonisos” with around 450 seats and two additional snack stands.

However, the highlight of 2027 will be the opening of the new four-star hotel “L’Odyssée.”
This 300-room resort will take inspiration from an oriental caravanserai, reflecting Asterix and Obelix’s journeys to the East. The hotel will be divided into four themed worlds – Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Phoenicia – and will feature two buffet restaurants, a rooftop bar, and a conference center. Parc Astérix also emphasizes the project’s eco-friendly construction, meeting HQE (High Environmental Quality) standards.

2028: The new themed area “Londinium”

The highlight of the expansion plan will arrive in 2028. The “Les Rues de Paris” area, which opened in 1991, will be completely replaced by the new indoor themed area “Londinium.”

Inspired by the comic Asterix in Britain, this British-themed world will feature a Multi Dimension Coaster from Intamin with a track length of around 800 meters as its signature attraction.

The new area will also include an interactive dark ride by Alterface, an indoor playground, as well as new restaurants and shops. About two-thirds of the new area will be indoors, making it less dependent on weather conditions.

International recognition for current projects

Parc Astérix is already receiving widespread acclaim. The family-friendly roller coaster “Cétautomatix” was named “Top European New Attraction” at the Parksmania Awards 2025.
Additionally, the new restaurant “Les Fastes du Nil” was crowned “Best Food or Retail Development in the World” at the Park World Excellence Awards, praised for its creative concept and signature Merguez Burger.

With its ambitious expansion plan, new hotels, reimagined themed worlds, and award-winning attractions, Parc Astérix clearly aims not only to enhance the visitor experience but also to join the ranks of Europe’s very best theme parks.
