BELANTIS theme park near Leipzig has officially launched its next major expansion project. During a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony, construction began on a brand-new themed area scheduled to open in 2027. The highlight of the expansion will be a new family roller coaster, further strengthening the park’s offering for families.
Among those attending the ceremony were Saxony’s Minister for Economic Affairs Dirk Panter, the iconic comic characters Asterix and Obelix, BELANTIS Managing Director Filip De Witte and Park Director Martin Endruhn.
New family roller coaster
The centrepiece of the new themed area will be a Family Launch Coaster built by German roller coaster manufacturer Gerstlauer. Designed with families in mind, the attraction will allow even younger children to experience a launch coaster together with their parents.
As part of the project, the existing themed area “Strand der Götter” (Beach of the Gods) will undergo a complete transformation, featuring an entirely new look and atmosphere.
“With every new attraction, our vision for BELANTIS becomes more tangible. The new themed area is an important signal for the future of the park and reinforces our commitment to providing families with new adventures and high-quality experiences for many years to come,” said Managing Director Filip De Witte (translated).
Another milestone in the park’s long-term transformation
The new themed area forms part of BELANTIS’ long-term development strategy. Since Compagnie des Alpes acquired the park in 2025, the company has invested continuously in its future. In May 2026, “Idefix’ Abenteuerland” became the first newly developed themed area under the new master plan. Just two months later, the groundbreaking for the next expansion marks yet another important milestone.
With this investment, Compagnie des Alpes continues to deliver on its long-term vision while steadily modernising the park step by step.
Long-term vision: The first Asterix theme park outside France
Together with licensing partner Les Éditions Albert René, Compagnie des Alpes plans to gradually transform BELANTIS into the first Asterix theme park outside France by 2030 or 2031.
Over the coming years, additional themed areas and attractions inspired by the world of Asterix & Obelix will be introduced. At the same time, the operator aims to strengthen the park’s position as one of Germany’s leading family-focused leisure destinations.

The park offers a wide range of roller coasters, family attractions and live entertainment. Since 2025, BELANTIS has been part of the French leisure group Compagnie des Alpes, which plans to gradually transform the park into the first Asterix theme park outside France.
