In just a few days, a new roller coaster named Cétautomatix will open at the French theme park Parc Astérix (just outside Paris). This family-friendly ride is one of the park’s major new features for the 2025 season. Here’s everything you need to know.

Cétautomatix Comes to Parc Astérix

With Cétautomatix (known in English as Automatix), a new character from the Astérix comics makes his debut at the park. The village blacksmith of the Gaulish village is known for his craftsmanship and mechanical skill.

At Parc Astérix, he will soon open his own workshop, where he plans to sell and repair both new and used chariots.

Visitors will become test drivers of his latest models, taking a wild test run on a custom-built track.

A Family Coaster That Might Make You Dizzy?

The new roller coaster is a family-friendly spinning coaster manufactured by Gerstlauer. A chain lift brings riders to a height of 14 meters (about 46 feet), after which the spinning ride begins. The 420-meter-long (1,378-foot) track reaches speeds of up to 45 km/h (28 mph) and features no inversions, making it thrilling but still accessible for families. The ride is suitable for guests at least one meter tall.

There are nine ride vehicles, each with four seats (two rows of two).

A similar ride of the same model operates as Vicky The Ride in the Belgian theme park Plopsa Coo. You can find more information about that attraction and the park here.

Location of the New Attraction

The new roller coaster is located on the former site of the Nationale 7 ride. This old-timer car ride, built by Mack Rides, opened in 1992 and was closed in November 2023. It was then demolished to make room for the new attraction.

With the launch of Cétautomatix, the Gaul-themed area Bienvenue chez les Gaulois gains another family-friendly addition.

Opening of Cétautomatix

Cétautomatix has already been undergoing regular test runs for some time. However, an official opening date has not yet been announced. The opening was originally planned for mid-May, but whether this will still be the case remains uncertain.

More 2025 Additions

Restaurant Les Fastes du Nil

Alongside the new roller coaster, visitors can also look forward to a brand-new restaurant this year. Located in the Egyptian-themed area, the new quick-service restaurant Les Fastes du Nil offers a selection of burgers, wraps, and special desserts — all served in an orientally inspired atmosphere.

New Look for Classic Rides

During the winter off-season, two classic rides — the wave swinger Les Chaises Volantes and the spinning teacups Les Chaudrons — received updated theming, giving them a noticeable visual refresh. Both rides are located near the new coaster. The same applies to the 4D cinema Attention Menhir!, which has also been revamped.
