The Montezooma’s Revenge roller coaster opened back in 1978 at Knott’s Berry Farm in California, USA. Operations on the ride were suspended in 2022, and a renovation was announced. It has now been confirmed that MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress will hold its media preview on July 20.
After four years of renovation, the time has finally come: MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress is opening at Knott’s Berry Farm. The Schwarzkopf shuttle loop coaster, which first opened in 1978, has now been transformed into a multi-launch coaster in collaboration with Kumbak. The theming has also been updated. In the future, the roller coaster will feature an Aztec-style design, and the ride will begin inside a Mayan temple.
New Story and New Design
In addition to the new name, there’s also an entirely new concept, including a new story. The entrance to the roller coaster is themed after a Mayan stone temple. During the ride, you take on the role of a treasure hunter searching for the gold of the Aztec ruler Montezooma. After finding the gold, the treasure hunters then try to escape from the Forbidden Fortress. The train is designed to resemble a mythical creature with fangs, reptilian armor, and red eyes. Even in the queue area, traps await you, preparing you for the adventure ahead and setting the thematic mood.
The ride also has a few special features. There are said to be different launch sequences, and for every 100th ride, an additional launch element will be added. This way, the park ensures that the attraction never gets boring and that there’s always something new to discover.
